Established in 1998, Sileni Estates is named after the Sileni who featured in Greek mythology as the vintage deities or demigods associated with Dionysus, the Greek God of Wine. They celebrated good wine, good food and good company.
Sileni Estates vineyards and winery are based near Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, on the east coast of New Zealand. Sileni produces fine wine from two Hawke’s Bay vineyard sites on river gravel soils, each of which has slightly different climatic characteristics suited to different grape varieties and wine styles. In addition Sileni Estates also source Sauvignon Blanc grapes from leased vineyards and contract growers in the Marlborough region.
The Sileni Estates Winery is a state-of-the-art facility designed to crush 1500+ tonnes of fruit using both high-tech and traditional winemaking methods. Chief Winemaker Grant Edmonds leads a team of winemakers with many years vintage experience in many of the world’s major wine regions.
The Sileni Estates Winery also offers the visitor the total wine and food destination experience. Housing the Sileni Estates Restaurant, Gourmet Cellar Store, Wine Discovery Centre, Culinary School & The Village Press Olive Oil Press House (home to New Zealand’s largest producer of extra virgin olive oil), Sileni’s Visitor Programme focuses on wine and food education through Culinary Classes, Winery / Vineyard and The Village Press tours and wine / olive oil tastings.
